in honour of
Philip Nicolaas
Zaayman
This site carries the name of my late father.
I honour his memory with gratitude, respect, and love. His life, example, and the values he passed on remain part of the foundation of who I am today.
This space is a small tribute to his legacy — a reminder that every journey is shaped by those who came before us.
the journalist
Philip Nicolaas Fielie Zaayman (1939–2019) was a prominent South African sports journalist — known as much for his warmth off the page as for the voice he brought to it.
He was a founding member of Rapportin 1970 and served as its sports editor for 21 years — shaping the paper's sporting voice through some of the most memorable decades in South African sport.
He was widely respected for a writing style that felt like conversation — unhurried, vivid, and deeply human. His byline travelled with the Springboks on international tours and carried readers courtside for historic boxing matches across the world.
